About this role
You will provide direct patient care in the Post Anesthesia Care Unit (PACU) at Hilo Medical Center, supporting patients through pre-operative assessment, Phase I recovery, and Phase II discharge preparation. Your role requires advanced knowledge of anesthesiology and critical care skills to monitor post-surgical patients and identify potential complications.
Your Responsibilities
- Assess surgical incision sites and monitor wound integrity
- Track vital signs and body temperature stability
- Monitor patients requiring advanced post-anesthesia care
- Operate equipment including Meditech, PCA Pumps, Pyxis, Braun IV Pumps, Cryocuff, sequential compression devices, Bair Hugger warmers, and cardiac monitors (HP and Phillips brands)
- Identify and respond to post-operative complications
Schedule and Assignment Details
You will work rotating shifts varying between 8, 10, and 12 hours across days, evenings, nights, and weekends/holidays. Your schedule may alternate between ASU and PACU units. On-call responsibilities range from 0–3 shifts per month, including 8-hour night shifts and 24-hour weekend/holiday blocks. Please note that hours and shift preferences are not guaranteed.
Requirements
- Valid Hawaii RN license required by assignment start date
- Minimum 2 years critical care experience as an RN in a hospital setting (ER or ICU)
- Current BLS and ACLS certifications from American Heart Association
- PALS credential recommended and may be required for specific positions
- Specialty certifications such as NIHSS and TNCC preferred
Assignment Details
Assignment duration is 91 days, beginning May 4, 2026. You must arrive on Thursday before your start date to complete a Friday employee health appointment. Weekly pay is $2,181.24.
