About this role

You will work as an RN on a 40-bed Cardiovascular Progressive Care Unit (CVPC) located on the E4 floor of Mission Hospital's Heart Tower in Asheville, NC. This is a 91-day travel assignment with a 3×12 day shift schedule (6:45 AM – 7:15 PM), paying $2,102.40 per week.

Your patient population and responsibilities:

  • Care for cardiovascular and thoracic surgery patients, including those recovering from open heart surgery, CABG, AVR, MVR, Bentall, TAVR, lobectomy, thoracotomy, and vascular procedures (AAA repair, fem-pop bypass, carotid endarterectomy)
  • Manage overflow medical cardiology patients with diagnoses such as heart failure, DKA, chest pain, sepsis, and heart block
  • Maintain a patient ratio of 1:5 RNs
  • Perform epidural management, chest tube management, tube feedings, IV glucommander, and cardiac drip management (phenylephrine, dobutamine, dopamine, milrinone, cardizem, amiodarone, insulin, heparin, nitroglycerin, ketamine)
  • Operate Baxter IV pumps, CADD epidural pumps, and various patient lifts
  • Document using Cerner EMR

Staffing and scheduling:

  • Day shift: 1 charge RN, 13 RNs, 4 PCTs, and 1.33 HUC
  • No on-call requirements
  • Minimum 6 weekend shifts per 6-week schedule period
  • Flexibility to work holidays required
  • May float to step-down units (1:5 ratios), medical/surgical units (1:6–7 ratios), or ER inpatient holding area (1:6)

Requirements:

  • Current RN license
  • ACLS and BLS certifications required
  • Step-down and telemetry experience required
  • Prior CV surgery and vascular surgery population experience within the last year preferred
  • CVICU experience preferred

Dress code: All navy, white tops with navy bottoms, or all white scrubs.
