Job Details:

• Certification required and Labor & Delivery experience is mandatory
• Function under supervision of the Nursing Supervisor and circulating nurse as a scrub or assist
• Assist in the delivery of patient care in the Delivery Room under the supervision of a professional nurse in accordance with AWHONN Practice Standards
• Apply knowledge of normal and pathologic anatomy and physiology to assist in the administration of pharmacologic agents
• Identify medications and solutions by name, dosage, and expiration date in coordination with a registered nurse
• Apply principles of asepsis and sterile technique to provide optimal patient care
• Establish and maintain a sterile field and perform gowning, gloving, and surgical scrubbing according to facility policy
• Assist with skin preparation and draping of patient
• Assist with the care, preparation, and maintenance of sterile and non-sterile supplies
• Demonstrate knowledge, care, maintenance, and storage of special instruments and equipment
• Check sutures and supplies and assist with case set-up
• Update surgeons' preference lists as needed
• Differentiate sterilization methods required for specific instruments and equipment
• Clean and sterilize contaminated instruments, equipment, and supplies as necessary
• Operate sterilizer safely and document accurately
• Perform sharps, sponge, and instrument counts
• Anticipate the needs of the surgeon to expedite procedures and minimize patient exposure to surgical and anesthetic stress
• Respond to emergency situations with sound judgment in a calm and efficient manner
• Adhere to Standard Precautions Policy, Infection Control Policy, and Delivery Room Policies and Procedures
