PCU - Progressive Care Unit

Opportunity:

Registered Nurse - PCU

Job Details:

• Minimum 2 years of nursing experience required
• Trauma Level I experience required
• Must be flexible with weekend requirements - travelers must be able to work 50% of weekends during their contract
• Staffing ratio of 1:4 for days, nights, and weekends
• Floating is required - travelers may be expected to float to different levels of care including Med-Surg, PCU, and ICU at both University and Methodist Hospitals
• Charge nurse responsibilities may be required based on operational needs with provided training and resources
• Must agree to the possibility of precepting and/or being assigned students to shadow while on assignment
• Call-in policy: missed contracted shifts must be made up during the pay period or will be added to the end of the contract
• Required certifications: BLS, ACLS preferred, NIHSS
• Charting system: Cerner (preferred)
• Required skills: Cardiac PCU, Drips, Post Cath Lab, IV Starts, Sheath Pulls, Cardiac Telemetry, Central line care/management, Interpretation and management of dysrhythmias, Post MI, Pre/Post Cardiac Cath, Pre/Post Cardiac Surgery, Sheath Removal, Titrate Cardiac Drips, and Surgical Drains
• Preferred skills: Conscious Sedation and Telemetry
• Progressive care unit focused on close monitoring of patients with cardiovascular diagnoses including congestive heart failure, post-myocardial infarction, pulmonary hypertension, cardiac arrhythmias, COPD, congenital heart defects, and infective endocarditis
• Care for patients post-cath lab procedures, prior to LVAD placements, heart/lung transplants, and pre-valve replacement
• Interdisciplinary support available including IV Teams, Physical Therapy, Respiratory Services, Radiology, Social Services, Rapid Response Teams, and Pharmacy
• Unit capacity: 28 beds with a daily census of 27
• Patients served: Adults
• First-time travelers accepted
• Local Indiana residents not accepted for this position
