CVOR RN Job in Des Moines, IA

UnityPoint – Iowa Methodist Medical Center is seeking a Registered Nurse for the Cardiovascular Operating Room (CVOR) on a temporary travel assignment. You will work 4x10 hour days with a 182-day contract beginning September 14, 2026, earning $3,112 weekly.

About the Role

This 16-bed unit operates 12–14 of its 16 OR suites routinely, handling 35–50 cases daily with turnovers expected under 20 minutes. You will manage a 1:1 patient ratio and work as both scrub and circulating nurse across multiple service lines: cardiac and peripheral vascular, neuro, ortho (primarily trauma), robotics, gynecology, urology, general, pediatrics, transplants, and limited ENT and plastic procedures.

Equipment & Facilities

The department features 3 Da Vinci robotic systems, Stealth neuro navigation technology, and Synthes or Stryker instrumentation for ortho trauma. Scrubs are provided.

Scheduling & On-Call

You will be required to float across all campuses. On-call obligations include up to 2 overnight shifts per week and 1 weekend per month (Friday 5:00 PM through Monday 6:30 AM). You must work 1–2 of 3 upcoming summer holidays unless the unit is closed.

Orientation

Expect a 6+ week orientation: 2–3 weeks in general OR, 2 weeks in vascular circulating and scrubbing, then progression to cardiac cases with shadow call before independent cardiac call.

Requirements

• Active Iowa license or compact/multistate license
• Current BLS (AHA) certification
• Minimum 24 months recent/current operating room experience
• CVOR experience with strong proficiency in cardiac, vascular, and thoracic cases (80% cardiac/20% general mix)
• General circulating and scrub experience, including open heart scrubbing
• Trauma Level I experience highly preferred; Trauma Level II required
• EPIC electronic medical systems experience within previous 3 years
• Travel assignment completed within previous 15 months (no first-time travelers)
