PCU - Progressive Care Unit

Opportunity:

Registered Nurse - PCU

Job Details:

• 3x12 night shifts from 6:45 PM to 7:15 AM
• Weekend requirement: Every other weekend or 6 weekend shifts per 6-week scheduling block
• Must work at least 1 holiday per 13-week contract
• Facility may call off 1 shift per 2-week period
• Patient ratios: Typically 1:5 with a staffing goal of 1:4
• Float within skillset may be required, including to other PCU or medical-surgical level of care units
• Epic charting system experience required
• Required certifications: ACLS, BLS, NIHSS
• Minimum 1 year of experience required
• Ventilator experience required for chronic trach patients
• Perform cardiac monitoring, emergency response, and dysrhythmia interpretation and management
• Administer IV therapy, phlebotomy, blood product administration, and manage central and peripheral line care
• Administer medications including cardiac drips (no titration): Cardizem, Heparin, Insulin, low-dose dopamine/dobutamine, Amiodarone, Nitro, Bumex, Lasix, Lidocaine, and Ketamine
• Provide respiratory support including nasal cannula, oxygen administration, CPAP, and BiPAP
• Activate Rapid Response and Code teams as needed
• Follow isolation precautions and manage telemetry across PCU, DOU, IMC, and stepdown units
• Operate orthopedic equipment, chest tubes, surgical drains, trach, endo tool, PICC line, and MML
• Unit functions as a stepdown from the General Surgical ICU with bariatric specialty and backup to the trauma unit
• Unit includes 2 beds for chronic trach patients (not ICU level of care)
• Interdisciplinary support available including physical therapy, respiratory services, pharmacy, radiology, and social services
• Treat adult and geriatric patient populations
