PCU Registered Nurse Job in Roanoke, VA

Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital is seeking a Registered Nurse for its Progressive Care Unit (PCU), a post-operative stepdown unit specializing in open heart and thoracic surgery patients. This is a 91-day travel assignment beginning July 6, 2026.

Schedule & Compensation

• 3x12-hour day shifts: 6:45 AM to 7:15 PM
• Every other weekend or 6 weekend shifts per 6-week block
• Minimum 1 holiday per 13-week contract
• One facility call-off permitted per 2-week period
• Weekly pay: $2,016
• No on-call required

Role Requirements

• Minimum 1 year nursing experience; 250+ bed hospital experience preferred
• Current ACLS, BLS, and NIHSS certifications
• EPIC charting system proficiency required
• Patient ratio: 4:1 to 5:1 (goal is 4:1)
• Ability to work independently without CNA support
• Occasional floating to other PCU or medical/surgical units

Clinical Responsibilities

• Cardiac monitoring, dysrhythmia interpretation and management, emergency response
• Rapid Response and Code team activation as needed
• IV therapy administration, phlebotomy, blood product management, central and peripheral line care
• Cardiac drip management: Cardizem, Heparin, Insulin, low-dose dopamine/dobutamine, Amiodarone, Nitro, Bumex, Lasix (administration only, no titration)
• Respiratory support: nasal cannula, oxygen delivery, CPAP, BiPAP, non-invasive airway management
• Management of chest tubes, trachs, PICC lines, open wounds/drains, and LVADs
• Care for 2 vent-capable chronic trach beds (stepdown level, not ICU)

Facility Support

The unit features remote telemetry with on-unit monitors and tele-sitting implementation. You will have access to IV teams, physical therapy, respiratory services, phlebotomy, radiology, social services, rapid response teams, and pharmacy. The patient population includes adults and geriatrics.
