Occupational Therapy Assistant Job in Abilene, TX

You'll work as an Occupational Therapy Assistant in a long-term care setting at Avir at Coronado in Abilene, Texas. This is a 91-day temporary assignment on the day shift, working 5 days per week, 8 hours per day.

Your responsibilities include:

• Execute specialized therapy plans designed by the supervising occupational therapist, guiding patients through therapeutic exercises and activities to improve motor skills and coordination
• Teach patients Activities of Daily Living (ADLs) such as bathing, dressing, and eating, often using adaptive techniques
• Instruct patients and families on how to use special tools like reachers, mobility aids, or modified kitchen utensils
• Monitor and document detailed notes on patient progress, behavioral changes, and safety concerns
• Report findings to the supervising occupational therapist to adjust treatment plans as needed
• Provide emotional encouragement to patients and train caregivers on how to assist with home programs
• Prepare treatment areas and clean equipment
• Handle administrative duties like scheduling and billing

Position requirements:

• 2 years of OTA experience in a long-term care setting
• Valid Texas or compact state license
• Dementia or Alzheimer's (DOR) experience preferred
• No on-call responsibilities
• No weekend requirements
