PCU RN Job in Omaha, NE

You'll work as an RN in the Progressive Care Unit at CHI Health Creighton University Medical Center – Bergan Mercy in Omaha, Nebraska. This is a 91-day travel assignment starting August 31, 2026, with three 12-hour night shifts per week at $2,436.48 weekly.

Your Role

You'll provide intermediate care to patients transitioning from higher acuity levels, including those downgraded from the CVICU. Your patient population includes those with cardiac and vascular diagnoses such as CVAs, CHF, A-fib with rapid ventricular response, and post-cath lab patients. The unit supports a robust thoracic program, electrophysiology, cath lab, and structural heart services.

You'll manage a 1:4 nurse-to-patient ratio (1:3 for post-surgical patients within 24 hours) and serve as the charge nurse on each shift, typically without a direct patient assignment. You'll titrate vasoactive drips including amiodarone, nitroglycerin, nicardipine, epinephrine, and diltiazem. You'll manage respiratory equipment including BiPAP, CPAP, and nasal cannula, and independently read and interpret telemetry strips with remote tele tech support available.

Schedule and Support

Night shifts run 6:30 PM to 7:00 AM with an every-other-weekend requirement. There is no on-call or standby expectation. A hospitalist and intensivist are in-house 24/7, with cardiology on-call after hours. Respiratory therapy is available 24/7. Nurse aides and patient care techs support the unit at a 1:18 ratio.

Requirements and Onboarding

You must hold current BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS certifications and have a minimum of 1 year of experience with this patient population. A BSN is not required. You'll complete 1–2 shifts of unit-specific orientation tailored to your experience and pass a 90-question open-book exam with a minimum score of 90% during onboarding.

Facility Details

You'll chart in EPIC and wear navy blue scrubs. Artificial nails are prohibited in all patient care departments. A valid driver's license is required at the time of submission.
