Your Role

You will rotate between PreOp and PACU based on daily operational needs, caring for inpatient and outpatient surgical patients across multiple specialties including orthopedic, general, vascular, plastics, urology, ENT, endoscopy, and electrophysiology. The PACU consists of 13 bays with patient ratios of 2:1 in Phase 1 and 3:1 in Phase 2. You'll care for pediatric patients age 10 and older. You may float to PreOp, electrophysiology (preop/intraop/postop), and GI Endoscopy (preop and recovery only), but will not work intraoperative assignments in those areas.

Schedule Details

Be prepared for variable start times, including early morning PreOp assignments starting at 5:30 AM. A rotating 2nd Call commitment is required: per 6-week period, you'll complete 3 weekend/holiday shifts and 3 weekday shifts. Weekday call runs 9:00 PM to 5:30 AM (8.5 hours); weekend/holiday call is either 8:00 AM to 8:00 PM or 8:00 PM to 8:00 AM (12 hours). Call rotation includes Inova-observed holidays.

  • Current BLS, ACLS, and PALS (AHA) certifications
  • ECG exam administered on Day 2 of orientation (pass/fail, one attempt)
  • Epic EMR experience preferred; Epic access required

Dress Code

Maroon OR scrubs in PACU, electrophysiology, and Endoscopy; Maroon OR attire or Navy scrubs when assigned to PreOp. OR attire is provided on campus.

Assignment begins July 6, 2026, and runs for 69 days. If you have 2+ years of PACU experience and hold current certifications, we'd like to hear from you.
