About this role
Mount Vernon Hospital is seeking an experienced RN for a 10-week travel assignment in our Post Anesthesia Care Unit (PACU). You'll work a full-time schedule of 36 hours per week, Monday through Friday, with variable shift lengths of 9 or 12 hours across unit coverage from 5:30 AM to 9:00 PM.
Your Role
You will rotate between PreOp and PACU based on daily operational needs, caring for inpatient and outpatient surgical patients across multiple specialties including orthopedic, general, vascular, plastics, urology, ENT, endoscopy, and electrophysiology. The PACU consists of 13 bays with patient ratios of 2:1 in Phase 1 and 3:1 in Phase 2. You'll care for pediatric patients age 10 and older. You may float to PreOp, electrophysiology (preop/intraop/postop), and GI Endoscopy (preop and recovery only), but will not work intraoperative assignments in those areas.
Schedule Details
Be prepared for variable start times, including early morning PreOp assignments starting at 5:30 AM. A rotating 2nd Call commitment is required: per 6-week period, you'll complete 3 weekend/holiday shifts and 3 weekday shifts. Weekday call runs 9:00 PM to 5:30 AM (8.5 hours); weekend/holiday call is either 8:00 AM to 8:00 PM or 8:00 PM to 8:00 AM (12 hours). Call rotation includes Inova-observed holidays.
Requirements
- Minimum 2 years of PACU RN experience; strong perianesthesia background preferred
- Active RN license in Virginia or active multistate compact (NLC) license
- Current BLS, ACLS, and PALS (AHA) certifications
- ECG exam administered on Day 2 of orientation (pass/fail, one attempt)
- Epic EMR experience preferred; Epic access required
Dress Code
Maroon OR scrubs in PACU, electrophysiology, and Endoscopy; Maroon OR attire or Navy scrubs when assigned to PreOp. OR attire is provided on campus.
