RN - Med Surg

Job Details:

• This is a Neuro unit focused on general medicine with a focus on neurological patient diagnoses
• Night shift position
• 36 or 48 hours per week accepted; overtime not billed until after 48 hours if on a 48-hour schedule
• Patient ratio of 1:6
• 13 to 26 week contracts accepted
• Float requirement: travelers float first
• Weekend requirement: 5 to 6 weekend shifts per contract (approximately every other weekend)
• Must work 2 of 3 major holidays
• Block scheduling managed by unit manager
• 24 hours of unit orientation provided
• Scrubs not provided; navy blue required
• Must pass EKG testing prior to start
• Minimum 2 years of experience required
• First-time travelers accepted
• Required certifications: ACLS, BLS, NIHSS
• Required skills include: CVA management, interpretation and management of dysrhythmias, isolation precautions/PPE, Med/Surg, telemetry, nasal cannula, non-invasive airway management, peripheral line care/management, and starting and maintaining IVs
• Preferred experience: NIH stroke scale, neuro experience, and charge nurse experience or willingness to learn the charge nurse role
• Unit systems: Pyxis (medication), EPIC (documentation), SBAR (communication)
• Interdisciplinary support available including IV teams, physical therapy, respiratory services, pharmacy, rapid response teams, and more
• Contract staff may be assigned to a Storm Team and/or Hurricane Team and may be required to report during catastrophic events, mass casualty incidents, or disasters
• Strict call-off policy strongly enforced; teamwork approach and adherence to behavioral expectations required
