About this role

Down East Community Hospital is seeking a Sterile Processing Technician for a 91-day travel assignment. You'll work three 12-hour day shifts per week at $1,363.93 weekly pay, with a start date of February 24, 2026.

In this role, you'll manage the decontamination, cleaning, processing, and sterilization of surgical supplies and equipment for Central Service. Your responsibilities include:

  • Perform gas and steam sterilization using autoclave equipment
  • Conduct daily biological and chemical tests on sterilizers and record results
  • Clean, wrap, and package instruments and supplies for sterilization procedures
  • Process contaminated instruments and supplies returned from surgical areas
  • Handle endoscopy scope cleaning and sterilization
  • Inspect autoclaves for signs of malfunction and ensure proper operation before daily use
  • Apply aseptic technique to all work assignments
  • Assemble surgical trays and prepare supplies for sterilization
  • Care for instruments, syringes, needles, and specialized procedure items
  • Receive and deliver surgical supplies; fulfill requisition requests
  • Store supplies and equipment in appropriate locations
  • Order weekly departmental supplies from Materials Management and outside vendors
  • Maintain required records and documentation

You'll support surgical specialties including OB-GYN, general surgery, ENT, orthopedics, podiatry, pain management, and urology. Required qualifications: CRCST and CER certifications, basic computer skills, and the ability to lift up to 35 pounds independently and push/pull 100 pounds using mechanical devices. You must have visual acuity correctable to 20/20 and color vision. This is an Exposure Category I position with potential risk of exposure to bloodborne pathogens.
