About this role
You'll work as a Registered Nurse in our Progressive Care Unit at BJC West - Saint Lukes Hospital Plaza in Kansas City, Missouri. This is a 91-day travel assignment with 3x12 night shifts, paying $2,212.53 weekly. Your start date is May 25, 2026.
Requirements and Experience
- 2 years of recent specialty experience with a full year in PCU within the past 12 months
- Current BLS and NIH Stroke Scale certifications
- Kansas and Missouri licenses (or compact license)
- Proficiency with Epic charting system
- Completion of Epic training modules, infusion pump training, and glucometer training before your start date
Your Role
You'll care for a daily census of 20 patients with a 5:1 patient ratio on nights. Your patients include those recovering from bariatric surgery, urology procedures (TURP, TURBT with CBI, nephrectomy), hepatobiliary procedures (Whipple, liver resection), colorectal surgeries, and trauma cases. You'll manage complex pain control including epidurals, PCA pumps, ketamine drips, and lidocaine infusions.
Your clinical responsibilities include telemetry monitoring, dysrhythmia interpretation and management, continuous bladder irrigation, PICC line management, IV starts, chest tube management, isolation precautions, and comprehensive wound care. You'll handle multiple drainage systems including JP drains, NG tubes, chest tubes, G-tubes, J-tubes, and wound vacs.
Schedule and Expectations
- 3 guaranteed shifts per 13-week contract
- 8 weekend shifts required in each 6-week schedule period (combination of Friday, Saturday, Sunday)
- Maximum 7 days of request time off allowed
- Regular floating required between departments, units, and facilities as needed
You'll care for adolescent, adult, and geriatric patient populations in this fast-paced setting. This role demands strong clinical skills, adaptability, and the ability to manage complex patient needs across multiple surgical specialties.
