Cytotechnologist Job in Shreveport, LA

Ochsner LSU Health Shreveport, an academic medical center, is seeking a Cytotechnologist to join its laboratory team. This is a 91-day travel assignment beginning August 24, 2026.

Position Overview

You will perform cytological screening and specimen preparation across a range of patient populations, from neonates to geriatric adults. You will handle both gynecological and non-gynecological specimens, including PAP screening, ThinPrep processing, fluid analysis, and fine needle aspiration (FNA) procedures. All FNA specimens are physician-collected and handed off to you for processing in a dedicated space outside the procedure room.

Key Responsibilities

• Screen and evaluate PAP GYN and image-guided ThinPrep specimens
• Process non-gynecological specimens including ThinPrep, smears, and cytospin preparations
• Perform preliminary diagnosis, staining, and specimen labeling
• Handle ascitic fluid, esophageal, gastric, spinal, and bronchial specimens
• Assist with onsite procedures as needed
• Work collaboratively with an experienced cytotechnologist on staff

Requirements

• Allied Health Professional degree or equivalent
• Minimum 2 years of cytotechnology experience
• Current Louisiana state laboratory license at time of submission
• ASCP-CT certification
• Proficiency with Epic charting system
• Technical skills: ThinPrep, smear preparation, staining, and specimen identification
• Previous charge experience is preferred

Shift and Compensation

This position offers flexible day shift options: 7:00 AM – 3:30 PM, 7:30 AM – 4:00 PM, or 8:00 AM – 4:30 PM. The schedule is 5 days per week, 8-hour shifts. Weekly pay is $2,901. First-time travelers are welcome to apply.
