PACU - Post Anesthesia Care

RN - PACU

Job Details:

• Full-time position, 36 hours per week with a Monday through Friday base schedule
• Shift length and start times vary based on unit operational needs, typically 9-hour or 12-hour shifts
• Unit coverage spans 5:30 AM to 9:00 PM (PreOp opens at 5:30 AM, PACU closes at 9:00 PM)
• Assignments rotate between PreOp and PACU based on daily needs
• Must be comfortable with variable start times, including early starts in PreOp
• On-call (2nd Call) rotation required: 3 weekend/holiday shifts and 3 weekday shifts per 6-week period
• Weekday call hours: 9:00 PM to 5:30 AM (8.5 hours)
• Weekend/holiday call hours: day shift 8:00 AM to 8:00 PM (12 hours) or night shift 8:00 PM to 8:00 AM (12 hours)
• Call rotation includes Inova-observed holidays
• Float requirement: must float to PreOp, ECT (preop/intraop/postop), and GI Endoscopy (preop and recovery only)
• PACU unit consists of 13 bays: 10 Phase 1 and 3 Phase 2
• Patient ratios: Phase 1 is 2:1 and Phase 2 is 3:1
• Common cases include total joint arthroplasty, spine, orthopedic sports medicine, general surgery, vascular, plastics, urology, ENT, ECT, and GI endoscopy
• Population served includes inpatient and outpatient surgical patients across multiple specialties, including pediatric patients age 10 and older
• Minimum 2 years of PACU RN experience required; strong perianesthesia background preferred
• Active RN license in the Commonwealth of Virginia or active multistate compact (NLC) license required
• Required certifications: BLS, ACLS, and PALS (AHA)
• ECG exam administered on Day 2 of orientation; pass/fail with one attempt
• Epic EMR experience preferred; Epic access required
• Dress code: Maroon OR scrubs required in PACU, ECT, and Endoscopy; Maroon OR attire or Navy Inova scrubs when assigned to PreOp; OR attire provided on campus
• Assignment length: 10 weeks
