CVOR Technologist Surgical Tech Job in Bismarck, ND

CHI St Alexius Health Bismarck Medical Center is seeking a Surgical Tech with cardiothoracic and vascular operating room (CVOR) experience for a 91-day travel assignment beginning July 27, 2026.

Position Overview

You will work in 2 CVOR suites performing first scrub duties on 1 to 3 cases per day. This role requires independent scrubbing capability and a minimum of 2 years of CVOR experience with open heart, CABG, and valve cases. You must be willing to cross-train into general OR and other specialties when cardiovascular volumes are low, including orthopedic cases as second scrub. During low case volume periods, you may float to the floor as a 1:1 sitter to supplement hours.

Schedule

Regular shifts are Monday through Friday, 6:45 AM to 3:15 PM, with occasional 6:00 AM starts for open heart case prep (notified the day before). You will be on weeknight call 3 to 4 times per week from 3:15 PM to 6:45 AM, with 15-minute response time and 8-hour reprieve shifts post-call. A sleep room is available. Weekend call is required every other to every third weekend, Friday 3:15 PM through Monday 6:45 AM. You must be willing to work rotating holidays.

Case Types

Common procedures include open hearts (CABG, valve, aneurysms), thoracotomies, VATS, Convergent, AAA, carotids, ION robotic cases, ECMO, and Impella 5.5.

Compensation & Benefits

Weekly pay is $2,301. Scrubs are provided. Orientation includes 4 to 5 days of unit-based training with 2 buddy call shifts, flexible based on recent heart experience.

Requirements

• Allied Health Professional credential
• BLS certification
• Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) via NBSTSA
• ND UAP certification
• Minimum 2 years CVOR experience with open hearts, CABG, and valve cases

Contract Terms

You may cancel up to 4 shifts per contract (3 shifts if under 13 weeks). Request any requested time off upfront; 7 or fewer days per 13-week contract are permitted, and additional time off will not be approved. The charting system is EPIC.
