About this role

You'll work as a Certified Surgical First Assist (CSFA) in the operating room at Baptist Healthcare System, Inc. in Paducah, Kentucky. This is a 91-day travel assignment on a 5x8 night shift schedule, paying $2,584.08 per week, with a start date of June 8, 2026.

Your responsibilities include:

  • Function as the surgeon's chief assistant in the operating room under the supervision of the department director and nurse manager
  • Scrub into surgical cases and assist with setup and opening of sterile supplies
  • Ensure all instruments and supplies are available and thoroughly sterilized for scheduled cases
  • Maintain the sterile field during case setup and throughout all procedures
  • Alert the circulating nurse of any identified risks or variances from standard operating procedures
  • Assist with patient positioning and sterile draping
  • Pass instruments and provide surgical assistance as directed by the physician
  • Perform advanced surgical assistance including clamping, cauterizing, tying, and applying ligating clamps and hemostatic clips
  • Apply running or interrupted sutures on wound layers including muscle, fascia, subcutaneous tissue, and skin
  • Provide first assistance in cardiothoracic and other surgical procedures as directed
  • Perform saphenous vein harvesting (open and endoscopic) after completing approved training
  • Collaborate with the circulating nurse and orderlies for post-case cleaning and instrument breakdown
  • Perform point-of-use cleaning and prepare instruments for Central Sterile Processing
  • Follow all standards for instrument transport and return to Central Sterile
  • Report any damaged instruments to appropriate leadership
  • Ensure the surgical suite is properly disinfected and prepared for the next procedure

You must hold the appropriate credential as an Allied Health Professional with first assist certification or eligibility.
