PCU Registered Nurse Job in Roanoke, VA

Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital is seeking a Registered Nurse for its Progressive Care Unit (PCU). This is a 91-day travel assignment beginning July 6, 2026, offering $2,142 weekly pay.

Shift & Schedule

• 3x12-hour night shifts: 6:45 PM to 7:15 AM
• Every other weekend or 6 weekend shifts per 6-week scheduling block
• One holiday per 13-week contract
• Facility may call off 1 shift per 2-week period

Unit Overview

The PCU is a hybrid unit with 10 PCU beds and 2 ICU beds serving adults and geriatric populations. Daily census is approximately 12 patients. The unit cares for patients with conditions including DKA, COPD, sepsis, suicide/overdose, chronic respiratory failure, and renal failure. Two beds are dedicated to chronic tracheostomy patients.

Staffing & Responsibilities

• Patient ratios: typically 1:5, goal of 1:4
• Float required within skillset
• May work without CNA support
• Two-nurse assessment and bedside reporting required every shift
• Remote telemetry monitoring and tele sitting for patient coverage

Required Clinical Skills

• Cardiac monitoring, dysrhythmia interpretation and management
• IV therapy, phlebotomy, blood product administration
• Central and peripheral line care
• Medication administration including cardiac drips (non-titration)
• Respiratory support and ventilator care for chronic tracheostomy and vent-dependent patients
• Rapid Response and Code team activation
• Isolation precautions and telemetry across PCU, DOU, IMC, and stepdown units

Requirements

• Active Virginia state or compact RN license
• Minimum 1 year of clinical experience
• ACLS, BLS, and NIHSS certifications
• Epic charting experience
• Ventilator experience required
• Trauma Level I experience preferred
• Previous charge experience preferred
