About this role
You'll work nights as a Registered Nurse on a Neuro unit with a focus on general medicine and neurological patient diagnoses at Novant Health New Hanover Regional Medical Center in Wilmington, NC. This is a 91-week contract position.
Schedule & Hours:
- 4x12 night shifts
- 36 or 48 hours per week accepted
- Manager-assigned block scheduling
- Weekend requirement: 5 to 6 weekend shifts per contract (every other weekend)
- Float requirement applies—travelers float first within or near the facility
Patient Care:
- Patient ratio of 1:6, consistent across days, nights, and weekends
- Daily census of 24 patients across 24 beds
- Adult and geriatric populations
- Skills required include CVA management, dysrhythmia interpretation and management, isolation precautions and PPE, peripheral line care, IV insertion and maintenance, telemetry, and non-invasive airway management
Requirements & Certifications:
- Minimum 2 years of nursing experience (first-time travelers accepted)
- Current ACLS, BLS, and NIHSS certification required
- NIH stroke scale experience and neuro experience preferred
- Experience in or willingness to learn the charge nurse role preferred
- Must pass EKG testing prior to start
- Navy Blue scrubs required (not provided)
Facility Details:
- Charting systems: Epic, Pyxis, and SBAR communication
- 24-hour orientation
- Interdisciplinary support includes IV teams, physical therapy, respiratory services, phlebotomy, radiology, pharmacy, rapid response teams, and social services
Contract staff may be assigned to a Storm Team or Hurricane Team and may be required to report during catastrophic events or disasters. A teamwork approach to patient care with a focus on patient safety is essential.
