About this role

You will join Mission Hospital's 40-bed Cardiac Progressive Care Unit (CVPC) as a Registered Nurse on a travel assignment. This position offers three 12-hour day shifts per week, starting June 8, 2026, for a 91-day contract at $2,102.40 weekly.

Your primary responsibilities include caring for cardiovascular and thoracic surgery patients in the immediate post-operative period. Your patient population includes those recovering from open heart surgery (CABG, AVR, MVR, Bentall, TAVR), thoracic lung surgery (lobectomy, thoracotomy), esophagogastrectomy, AAA repair (open and endovascular), fem-pop bypass, and carotid endarterectomies. You will also care for overflow medical cardiology patients presenting with heart failure, DKA, chest pain, sepsis, and heart block.

You will maintain a 1:5 patient ratio and perform clinical procedures including:

  • Epidural and chest tube management
  • Tube feedings and IV medications
  • Cardiac drip management (phenylephrine, dobutamine, dopamine, milrinone, cardizem, amiodarone, insulin, heparin, nitroglycerin, ketamine)
  • Equipment operation: Baxter IV pumps, CADD epidural pumps, and patient lifts

You will document in the Cerner EMR system and collaborate with an experienced cardiovascular care team. Required certifications include ACLS and BLS. You must have prior stepdown and telemetry experience, with preferred experience in cardiovascular and vascular surgery populations within the last year.

The schedule includes three 12-hour day shifts (6:45 AM–7:15 PM) per week with no on-call responsibilities. You will be required to work a minimum of six weekend shifts (Saturday/Sunday) per six-week schedule period and must remain flexible for holiday coverage.

You may float to other stepdown units (1:5 ratios), medical-surgical units (1:6–7 ratios), or the ER inpatient holding area (1:6) as needed. Dress code requires all navy, white tops with navy bottoms, or all white scrubs. This role is best suited for a collaborative nurse who thrives in a fast-paced environment and demonstrates flexibility in a dynamic care setting.
