RN - Med Surg
Job Details:
• Implement professional nursing practice centered on the patient as a whole person, creating a caring environment focused on healing and wellness
• Base nursing practices on evidence, current research, hospital and department policies and procedures, regulatory standards, and professional guidelines
• Incorporate all four phases of the nursing process, critical thinking, and creativity into clinical decision-making
• Perform and document comprehensive assessments in accordance with RN scope of practice and hospital policies and procedures
• Consider patient culture, age, and developmental level when designing actions and interventions
• Identify patient risk factors and presenting complaints
• Collect objective and subjective data and obtain patient health information from family or others as necessary
• Develop a problem list prioritizing patient needs based on input from the inter-professional team
• Determine desired outcomes in coordination with patient and family in accordance with the medical plan of care
• Implement patient care therapies and procedures within scope of practice in accordance with established policies and professional guidelines
• Explain procedures, treatments, and processes to patients and families
• Recognize, respond to, and communicate changes in patient condition appropriately
• Conduct and document ongoing assessments and responses to procedures and therapies using the nursing process
• Delegate tasks appropriately and oversee team members in the performance of patient care activities
• Monitor accuracy and completeness of delegated patient care provided by other team members
• Identify and address educational needs of patients related to prioritized problems
• Facilitate patient discharge process by executing discharge orders in a timely manner and coordinating with Case Management
• Provide input into patient and nurse assignments considering available staffing, unit activity, and patient acuity
• Actively participate in department and unit quality improvement activities including patient satisfaction, patient falls, pressure ulcers, CAUTIs, and documentation auditing
• Promote a positive group dynamic and healing environment through words and actions
