PCU RN Job in Hilo, HI

Join Hilo Medical Center as a Registered Nurse in the Progressive Care Unit. This 91-day travel assignment offers you the opportunity to deliver specialized nursing care in a dynamic acute-care setting.

Role Overview

You will work in a 15-bed Progressive Care Unit that combines 3 Step Down ICU beds with 12 telemetry beds. Your responsibilities include primary nursing care, telemetry monitoring, telemetry strip reading, fingerstick blood sugar checks, and continuous cardiac monitoring. You will utilize the Meditech charting system and Pyxis medication dispensing, along with BIPAP and other acute-care equipment.

Scheduling and Compensation

You are scheduled for 36 hours per week following your first week of orientation. There are no guaranteed hours and no on-call responsibilities. You will earn $2,181.24 weekly.

Patient Care Details

Patient ratios are 1:4 for Progressive Care and 1:3 for Step Down ICU, allowing you to provide focused, individualized care. You may float to acute units throughout the facility, including Medical, Surgical/Peds, ICU, and Emergency Room.

Requirements

• Active State of Hawaii nursing license required by start date
• Minimum 1 year of hospital acute care experience within the last year
• ACLS, PALS, and NIHSS certification preferred
• Progressive Care and telemetry experience preferred

Assignment Details

Assignment begins August 10, 2026, and runs for 91 days. Dress code is scrubs. This position is ideal for RNs seeking hands-on experience in progressive and step-down care environments.
