About this role
You'll work as an RN on a Medical-Surgical unit at WVU Wheeling Hospital in Wheeling, WV. This is a 91-day travel assignment starting June 18, 2026, with three 12-hour night shifts per week (6:45 PM to 7:15 AM). You'll earn $2,229.12 weekly.
Unit Overview
The Med Surg unit manages ortho post-ops, basic neuro post-ops (laminectomies, discectomies, spinal fusions), general post-ops (gallbladders, mastectomies, sleeve gastrectomies), and medical diagnoses including COPD, pneumonia, and cellulitis. Hemodialysis is performed on this unit; experience with peritoneal dialysis is highly preferred.
Your Role
You'll care for 6–7 patients per shift, typically 7. CNA support is available with ratios of 1:10–12, typically 4–6 CNAs per shift. Common medications include Heparin, PCAs with MSO4, and occasional Ativan; no cardiac drips or continuous insulin are used. Respiratory support includes intermittent BiPAP, CPAP, and High Flow; RT is in-house 24/7. An IV Team starts all IVs; you assess IV sites only. Remote telemetry is available and monitored separately; you are not required to read strips.
Schedule & Support
Schedules are made 6 weeks at a time, with every-other-weekend requirements (3 weekends out of 6 weeks; nights are Friday/Saturday). You may submit up to 6 requests off per 6-week schedule. Floating is possible to other Med Surg or Med Surg/Oncology units, and to IMC for Med Surg overflow only with no drips. A hospitalist, intensivist, and residents are in-house 24/7. Pharmacy is in-house 24/7 with Pyxis access.
Requirements
- Current RN license
- BLS (AHA) and NIHSS certifications required; ACLS is a plus
- BSN is not required
- Valid, unexpired driver's license at time of submission
- Must reside within a 50-mile radius
- Any licensing hits must be disclosed at submission
Details
EMR is Sunrise (Allscripts). Dress code is navy blue top and bottom with navy scrub jackets; no hoodies. Orientation includes general hospital orientation followed by 2 full shifts on the unit. The cancellation policy allows 2 shifts per 13-week contract.
