PCU - Progressive Care Unit

RN - PCU Stepdown

Job Details:

• Night shift position working 7:00 PM to 7:00 AM
• 6-9 weekend shifts required within a 6-week schedule
• May be asked to participate in holiday rotation
• Float pool position covering multiple PCU/IMC units across various specialties including General, Cardiac, Neuro, Oncology, Rehab, Renal, Bariatrics, Ortho, Trauma, and ED Observation
• Nurse-to-patient ratio of 1:3-4 dependent on acuity
• May be asked to float into other acuity levels including ICU (low acuity holds), PCU/Stepdown, and MS-Tele
• Travelers are expected to float throughout a 60-mile radius zone and must obtain housing that makes this feasible
• Must be present in state for week of orientation even if first day modules are remote
• 1-2 days of unit-specific orientation with a preceptor
• Schedule is made by leadership for 6 weeks at a time; travelers must be flexible to fill gaps in permanent scheduling
• All time off requests must be submitted prior to starting assignment
• Rare call or standby requirement for low census situations
• Must have a minimum of 2 years of PCU/IMC experience
• Prior neuro experience preferred
• Epic experience preferred
• Must have experience with cardiac drips, insulin, and Ativan
• Must be comfortable titrating and managing cardiac drips including Dopamine, Dobutamine, Cardizem, Amiodarone, Ativan, insulin, and heparin
• Common patient population includes adults and geriatrics with diagnoses such as Cardiac, Neuro, Ortho, Oncology, Renal, Urology post-surgical, General Surgery, Gynecology, Psych/Detox, ENT, and General Medicine
• RT equipment including vents, CPAP, and BiPAP present on unit
• Nurse aides available on unit
• Any color scrubs permitted
• Charting system: Epic
• Required certifications: ACLS (AHA), BLS (AHA), NIHSS
• Trauma Level 1 acute care setting
• BSN not required
