About this role
You will work as an RN on a 40-bed Cardiovascular Progressive Care Unit (CVPC) located on the E4 floor of the Heart Tower at Mission Hospital in Asheville, NC. This is a 91-day travel assignment with a 3x12 day shift schedule (6:45 AM – 7:15 PM), paying $2,102.40 per week.
Your Patient Population & Clinical Duties
- Care for post-operative cardiovascular and vascular surgery patients, including open heart surgery, CABG, AVR, MVR, Bentall, TAVR, thoracic lung surgery (lobectomy, thoracotomy), esophagogastrectomy, AAA repair (open and endovascular), fem-pop bypass, and carotid endarterectomies
- Manage overflow medical cardiology patients with diagnoses such as heart failure, DKA, chest pain, sepsis, heart block, and related conditions
- Maintain a patient ratio of 1:5 per RN
- Perform epidural management, chest tube management, tube feedings, IV glucommander, and cardiac drip management (phenylephrine, dobutamine, dopamine, milrinone, cardizem, amiodarone, insulin, heparin, nitroglycerin, ketamine)
- Use Baxter IV pumps, CADD epidural pumps, and various patient lifts
- Document in the Cerner EMR system
Staffing & Unit Structure
Day shift includes 1 charge RN, 13 RNs, 4 PCTs, and 1.33 HUC. Night shift includes 1 charge RN, 13 RNs, 4 PCTs, and 0.33 HUC. You may float to stepdown units (1:5 ratios), medical/surgical units (1:6–7 ratios), or ER inpatient holding as needed.
Requirements & Preferences
- Current ACLS and BLS certifications required
- Stepdown and telemetry experience required
- Prior CV surgery and vascular surgery population experience within the last year preferred
- CVICU experience preferred
- No on-call requirements
- Minimum of 6 weekend shifts (Saturday/Sunday) per 6-week schedule period
- Flexibility to work holidays required
- Dress code: all navy, white tops with navy bottoms, or all white scrubs
This assignment begins July 13, 2026. You will join an established cardiovascular care team in a dedicated heart tower setting.
