About this role
ADEX Healthcare Staffing is seeking a Histology Technician for a travel assignment at Southwest — UPMC Presbyterian/Montefiore in Pittsburgh, PA. This is a 91-day contract beginning August 30, 2026.
Assignment Details:
- Schedule: 3 days per week, 12-hour shifts
- Weekly pay: $1,831
- Setting: Hospital laboratory
Your Responsibilities:
- Process and prepare surgical and autopsy tissue specimens for embedding, cutting, staining, and cover slipping
- Embed and cut specialized tissue based on anatomical location, including minute biopsy protocols
- Perform quality control checks at each phase of processing and staining
- Ensure all tissues are embedded and cut according to department-specific protocols with proper orientation
- Accurately prepare slides for microtomy using barcode labels to maintain correct patient identification
- Demonstrate progression of skills toward working independently in advanced staining areas
- Maintain instruments following quality control specifications and daily maintenance protocols
- Perform ancillary tasks including filing, cleaning, and stocking supplies
Qualifications:
- Minimum 2 years of experience as a Histology Technician
- Successful completion of a NAACLS-accredited HT program within the last 5 years, OR an Associate's degree or at least 60 semester hours of academic credit with a combination of 12 semester hours of biology and chemistry
- American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP) Certification
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
- HR credential preferred
- Act 34 required
