Job Details:

• Coordinate and perform a variety of nursing care procedures for patients of all ages in the Emergency Department
• Work independently during scheduled shifts while maintaining complete accountability for all actions taken
• Make clinical decisions independently and consult with appropriate managers or supervisors in difficult situations
• React calmly and make sound nursing judgments in emergent situations
• Delegate and supervise CNA/Tech staff appropriately
• Implement safe, therapeutic, and efficient care for patients with multisystem disease and/or complications of treatment
• Set priorities for patient care based on acuity and patient preference
• Administer age-specific medications and therapeutics accurately
• Coordinate patient care activities with physicians and other healthcare team members
• Conduct thorough nursing assessments through interviewing, observation, and nursing process
• Document assessments, nursing procedures, and patient responses to care accurately and completely
• Develop and contribute to individualized patient care plans based on existing and potential patient problems
• Provide patient and family education regarding tests, procedures, and disease processes
• Provide discharge instructions and after-care plans to meet patient needs
• Communicate effectively with patients, families, staff, and other healthcare team members
• Assist in orientation of new staff, travelers, and students
• Attend and participate in at least 50% of departmental staff meetings
• Comply with dress code requirements
• Proficiency required with basic medical equipment including defibrillators, monitors, EKG machines, ventilators, and specialty area equipment
• Assist with emergency procedures including intubations, arterial line setup, arterial blood gas puncture, thoracentesis, and lavage
• Minimum 1 year of Emergency Department experience required
• Current, valid, full, and unrestricted RN license in the State of Alaska required
• Must provide 2 fingerprint cards upon acceptance
• Required certifications: BLS, PALS, and ACLS
• TNCC/ATCN and NRP certification required within first 6 months
• Complete all mandatory training and competency checks
