PACU - Post Anesthesia Care

RN - PACU

Job Details:

• Work three 12-hour shifts per week, which must include at least one 0800-2030 shift; eligible shift times include 0500-1730, 0600-1830, 0700-1930, and 0800-2030
• Unit is a 21-bed HVI Pre/Post area handling both Phase 1 and Phase 2 recovery as well as moderate sedation recovery
• Nurse-to-patient ratios: Pre-op 1:3, Phase 1 1:2, Phase 2 1:3
• Perioperative Care Assistants (PCAs) available on the unit, typically 3-5 per day covering the unit collectively
• Common cases include anesthesia and sedation recoveries for outpatients and inpatients, heart catheterizations (left and right), EP procedures (pacemakers, ablations, EP studies), structural heart procedures (TAVRs, LAAOs, mitral clips, PFO closures), vascular procedures (carotid endarterectomies, carotid stents, bypasses, AAA repairs, angiograms), thoracic procedures (hiatal hernia repair, lung resections, mediastinoscopies, EGDs), and CT surgery cases (CABGs/Valves, LVADs — open sternotomy patients are not recovered in this unit)
• RNs are required to read strips
• ICU patients are occasionally recovered in the PACU
• General awareness of RT equipment required; RT sets up and manages equipment
• Call shifts are required and assigned as needed on Saturdays, Sundays, and hospital-recognized holidays, rotating equally through the nurse roster; call hours are 0600-1830 with a one-hour response time
• Will not float to other units
• Scrubs provided — ceil blue dress code required
• Charting system: EPIC
• 1 year of PACU experience required; cardiac experience preferred
• BSN not required
• Required certifications: ACLS (AHA), BLS (AHA)
• Trauma Level 1, Acute Care Setting
