Opportunity:

Phlebotomist - Phlebotomist / Laboratory

Job Details:

• Full-time position requiring 40 hours per week
• Phlebotomy certification required
• Phlebotomy experience required; successful completion of a phlebotomy course preferred
• Proficiently perform phlebotomy on patient population to obtain blood specimens
• Accurately identify patients using two patient identifiers
• Collect various specimen types including throat swabs, MRSA swabs, urine samples, heel sticks, finger sticks, blood cultures, and blood bank specimens
• Perform glucose tolerance and hormone stimulation specimen collection
• Perform specialized sample collections including breath alcohol testing, random urine drug screens, pre-employment urine drug screens, and legal urine drug screens
• Receive and accession collected specimens, centrifuge and aliquot specimens as needed, and deliver to appropriate laboratory sections
• Proficient use of Hospital Information System (HIS) and Laboratory Information Systems (LIS) required
• Perform patient registration, payment collection, and data entry of demographic and insurance information
• Transfer patient test requests from scripts, requisitions, and verbal orders into computer systems
• Generate lists, labels, and run daily reports
• Adhere to safety protocols and infection control practices at all times
• Accurately identify and label specimens with required patient information
• Communicate critical results to authorized personnel and appropriate licensed caregivers
• Perform limited waived testing including blood glucose monitoring
• May be required to perform 10-lead and pediatric electrocardiogram (EKG) tracings depending on location
• Drive laboratory vehicle to client sites, patient homes, or facilities to perform specimen collection and transport
• Assist with inventory management, supply ordering, and stocking
• Assist with orientation and training of new staff and provide ongoing mentorship to phlebotomy team
• Perform quality control procedures and proficiency testing accurately
