About this role
You'll work as a Registered Nurse in the NICU at University of Virginia Medical Center, caring for neonates and infants with complex conditions including extreme prematurity, cardiac anomalies, neurologic conditions, and various neonatal complications.
Assignment Details
- 13-week assignment (91 days) starting May 11, 2026
- 3x12-hour night shifts per week
- Weekly pay: $2,125.44
- 36 hours of orientation provided
- Up to 40 hours of approved time off per contract (cannot approve time off during first two weeks)
Your Role
- Patient ratios: 2–3 patients per nurse on nights and weekends; 1:1 or 1:2 for ICU level; 1:3 for stepdown
- Float assignments to PICU, Pediatrics, Postpartum, and L&D (including catching and transitioning newborns)
- Work 3 weekends out of every 6-week scheduling period and every other holiday
Clinical Responsibilities
You'll manage care involving high frequency ventilators, conventional ventilators, iNO, trachs, NIPPV/NIMV, CPAP/BiPAP, IV fluid management including drips, hemodynamic support, post-op care, whole body cooling, admissions, IV placements, lab draws, wound/drain/line care, ostomy care, and medication calculations.
Requirements
- 2+ years of experience with full-time Level III NICU experience required (Level IV highly preferred)
- Current Virginia RN license (must be in-hand by Wednesday before start date; can submit with pending)
- BLS, NRP, and Dr. Brown's Infant Driven Feeding Certificate (can submit with pending; $185 cost)
- Epic charting system experience required
- BSN preferred
- Nursys verification required for submittal
- Flu vaccination required with no exemptions
