Job Details:

• 13-week contract position working night shifts
• Every other weekend and every other holiday required
• Up to 40 hours of pre-approved time off available per 13-week contract
• 24 hours of orientation included
• Self-scheduling unit
• Minimum 2 years of experience required
• Charge experience preferred
• BSN preferred
• Required certifications: ACLS, BLS, PALS
• Epic charting system experience required
• Trauma Level I experience required
• Patient age groups include infants, pediatrics, and adolescents
• Provide comprehensive, family-centered care in a 10-bed pediatric preoperative and postoperative unit with an additional 4-bed Pediatric Surgical Observation Unit (PSOU)
• Deliver specialized postoperative care for pediatric patients requiring overnight observation or extended recovery up to 23 hours following surgery
• Collaborate closely with anesthesia, surgery, and multidisciplinary teams to deliver individualized care
• Perform ongoing patient assessments, manage pain and recovery, provide patient and family education, and coordinate safe discharge planning
• Required skills include: End-Tidal CO2 monitoring, accessing and managing ports, airway assessment, blood product administration, central line care and management, arterial line management, IV vasopressors, procedural sedation administration and monitoring, management of pediatric patients, Phase I and Phase II PACU, pre and post operative procedures, malignant hyperthermia protocol, pain assessment and management, PICC line care and management, and interpretation of arterial blood gases
• Interdisciplinary support available including IV teams, physical therapy, respiratory services, phlebotomy, radiology, social services, pharmacy, and rapid response teams
• 50-mile radius rule applies - local candidates are not accepted for this unit
• Virginia nursing license required; pending licenses accepted if in hand by Wednesday before start date
