Job Details:

• Minimum of 24 months of current/recent operating room experience required
• Cardiovascular OR/CVOR experience required
• General circulating/general operating room experience required (80% experience in cardiac cases, 20% experience in general cases)
• Strong proficient experience in cardiac, vascular, and thoracic procedures required
• Basic general surgery circulating experience required
• Scrub experience including open heart scrubbing required
• EPIC electronic medical records experience within previous 3 years required
• Trauma Level I experience highly preferred; Trauma Level II experience required
• No first-time travelers; must have completed a travel assignment within the previous 15 months
• Patient ratio of 1:1 with 16 available beds
• Average caseload of 35-50 cases per day with turnovers expected in less than 20 minutes
• 16 OR suites with 12-14 running routinely; space reserved for Level 1 trauma cases
• Service lines include cardiac/peripheral vascular, neuro, orthopedic trauma, robotics, gynecology, urology, general, pediatrics, transplants, and small volumes of ENT and plastic procedures
• Special equipment includes 3 Da Vinci robots, Stealth technology for neuro navigation, and primarily Synthes or Stryker for orthopedic trauma
• Both scrubbing and circulating experience preferred
• Structured CVOR orientation schedule: approximately 2-3 weeks in general OR, 2 weeks in vascular, then progressing to cardiac cases with shadow call before independent call
• Required to float across all campuses
• On-call responsibilities include up to 2 overnight shifts per week and 1 weekend per month (Friday 5:00 PM through Monday 6:30 AM)
• 1 weekend per month required
• Required to work 1-2 of 3 upcoming winter holidays unless the unit is closed
• Scrubs provided
• Required certifications: BLS (AHA)
• Active Iowa nursing license or compact/multistate license required
• Skills checklist specific to Operating Room Nurse (scrub/scrubbing) required
• Professional reference from a charge nurse, supervisor, nurse manager, director, CNO, or COO within the past 24 months preferred
• Driver's license required
