About this role
You'll work as a Registered Nurse in the NICU at Ochsner Lafayette General Medical Center, a 46-bed unit providing NICU II, III, and IV level care. This is a 56-week travel assignment beginning May 11, 2026, with 3x12 night shifts at $2,044.80 weekly.
Role Details
- Care for neonates and infants with a 1:3 patient ratio across all shifts
- Work with an average daily census of 30 patients
- Float to mother baby and pediatrics units as needed
- Every other weekend coverage required
- Participate in a self-scheduling system with 24 hours of orientation provided
Clinical Skills and Equipment
You'll manage advanced neonatal care including administration of blood products, bubble CPAP, central line blood draws, conscious sedation, developmental care, high flow nasal cannula, neonatal dosage calculations, and umbilical catheter management. You'll work with specialized equipment including oscillators, jet ventilators, bubble CPAP, HFNC, and transcutaneous CO2 monitoring.
Procedures and Patient Conditions
You'll assist with umbilical lines, lumbar puncture, PICC placement, and intubation. Patient diagnoses include prematurity, respiratory distress syndrome, TTN, hypoglycemia, congenital anomalies, and neonatal opioid withdrawal syndrome.
Requirements
- Current Louisiana or compact state RN license required upon submission
- BLS and NRP certifications required
- Epic charting system experience required
- 2 years NICU experience for previous travelers; 3 years NICU experience for first-time travelers
- Must live over 65 miles from the facility
- Emergency team assignment possible with expectation to remain at facility during emergency events
