PCU - Progressive Care Unit

Opportunity:

Registered Nurse - PCU

Job Details:

• 3x12-hour day shifts, 6:45 AM to 7:15 PM
• Weekend requirement: Every other weekend or 6 weekend shifts in a 6-week scheduling block
• Must work one holiday per 13-week contract
• Facility may call off 1 shift per 2-week period
• Charting system: Epic experience required
• Required certifications: ACLS, BLS, NIHSS
• Vent experience required
• Care for patients in a hybrid unit consisting of 10 PCU beds and 2 ICU beds
• Patient ratios typically 1:5 with a goal of 1:4
• Common diagnoses include DKA, COPD, Sepsis, Suicide/Overdose, Chronic Respiratory Failure, and Renal Failure
• 2 beds dedicated to chronic trach patients
• Perform cardiac monitoring, dysrhythmia interpretation and management, and emergency response
• Administer IV therapy, phlebotomy, blood product administration, and manage central/peripheral line care
• Administer medications including cardiac drips (no titration)
• Provide respiratory support including nasal cannula, oxygen administration, and non-invasive airway management
• Provide ventilator care for chronic trach and vent-dependent patients
• Activate Rapid Response and Code teams as needed
• Maintain isolation precautions and telemetry across PCU, DOU, IMC, and stepdown units
• Remote telemetry in use with monitors remaining on unit; tele sitting implemented for increased Patient Care Tech coverage
• Floating within skillset required
• May work without CNA support
• 2-nurse assessment and bedside reporting every shift
• Patients served: Adults and Geriatrics
• 1 year of experience required; previous charge experience preferred
• Trauma Level I experience preferred
