First Assist Technician Job in Paducah, KY

You will serve as the surgeon's chief assistant in the operating room at Baptist Healthcare System, Inc. Working under the supervision of the department director and nurse manager, you'll be an integral part of every surgical case.

Your responsibilities include:

• Scrub into surgical cases and assist the primary scrub with setup and opening of sterile supplies
• Ensure all instruments and supplies are available and thoroughly sterilized for scheduled cases
• Maintain the sterile field during case setup and throughout procedures
• Alert the circulating nurse of any identified risks or variances from standard operating procedures
• Assist with patient positioning and sterile draping
• Pass instruments and provide surgical assistance as directed by the physician
• Perform advanced surgical assistance including clamping, cauterizing, tying, and applying ligating clamps and hemostatic clips
• Apply running or interrupted sutures on wound layers including muscle, fascia, subcutaneous tissue, and skin
• First assist in cardiothoracic and other surgical procedures as directed
• Perform saphenous vein harvesting (open and endoscopic) after completing approved training
• Collaborate with circulating nurses and orderlies for post-case cleaning
• Complete point-of-use cleaning and breakdown of instruments for Central Sterile Processing
• Follow all standards for instrument transport and return to Central Sterile
• Report damaged instruments to appropriate leadership
• Ensure the surgical suite is properly disinfected and prepared for the next procedure

Assignment Details: 5x8 nights, 93 days, starting June 18, 2026. Weekly pay is $2,584.08.
