About this role
You'll work as a Medical Lab Scientist in the blood bank at IU Health Riley Hospital for Children, supporting transfusion services across pediatric and adult patient populations. This is a 91-day travel assignment with 4x10 night shifts at $1,872 per week, starting June 29, 2026.
Your Role
You'll float between Methodist, University, and Riley Hospitals, processing approximately 15,000 samples. Your responsibilities include specimen processing, ABO/Rh typing, antibody screening and identification, antibody typing using tube methods, and crossmatch procedures (immediate spin/IgG and electronic). You'll perform indirect Coombs tests and specialized compatibility testing, prepare blood components for transfusion, and handle routine and specialized blood bank procedures including component modification.
You'll work evening shifts (3:00 PM – 11:30 PM) or night shifts (11:00 PM – 7:30 AM) with flexible start times. You must be comfortable working independently, particularly on night shifts, and will use both automated equipment and gel testing methods.
Requirements
- Minimum 1 year of experience
- Blood bank experience in a large facility
- ASCP-MLS or ASCP-BB certification (both required); MLT candidates considered only with ASCP-MLT AND ASCP-BB certifications
- Current flu vaccination (medical/religious exemptions only)
- Ability to work 2 out of 3 major holidays
Preferred Qualifications
- Cerner charting system experience
- Trauma Level I facility experience
Specific blood bank training will be provided on your hired shift after general orientation. You'll support transfusion needs across multiple specialty services in a Level I trauma center.
