Job Details:
• Coordinate and perform a variety of nursing care procedures for patients of all ages requiring professional knowledge and consideration of specific patient conditions and treatments
• Work independently in completing assignments while maintaining complete accountability for all actions taken
• Make clinical decisions independently during the scheduled shift and consult with appropriate manager/supervisor in difficult situations requiring additional input or resources
• React calmly and make sound nursing judgments in emergent situations
• Delegate and supervise CNA/Tech staff appropriately
• Implement safe, therapeutic, and efficient care for patients with multisystem disease and/or complications of treatment using appropriate infection control measures
• Set priorities for care of patients based on acuity and/or patient preference and anticipate potential problems
• Initiate, manage, and document nursing procedures consistent with scientific principles and departmental policy
• Accurately administer age-specific medications and therapeutics
• Carry out medical and nursing care plans and coordinate patient care activities with physicians and other healthcare team members
• Facilitate healing by providing nursing care that is individualized, goal oriented, and based on scientific principles and the nursing process
• Conduct thorough nursing assessments including interviewing, observation, and nursing process for pediatric, adult, and geriatric patients
• Complete thorough nursing admission databases and initial patient assessments, documenting findings consistently
• Develop and contribute to a plan of nursing action based on existing and potential patient problems
• Transcribe and note physician orders accurately and give shift reports according to guidelines
• Provide patient and family education, explain tests, procedures, and disease processes
• Communicate with staff, patients, significant others, and other members of the healthcare team in a supportive, constructive, and positive manner
• Assist in the orientation of new staff, travelers, and students
• Attend and participate in at least 50% of departmental staff meetings and comply with area and departmental scheduling guidelines
• Complete annual competencies, evaluations, and maintain certifications and licensure
• Comply with dress code requirements
• Must possess proficiency in operating and monitoring basic medical equipment including defibrillators, monitors, beds/lifts, chest tube setup, immobilization devices, EKG machines, and ventilators
• Must be proficient in assisting with emergency procedures including intubations, arterial line setup, arterial blood gas puncture, thoracentesis, and lavage
• Valid, current, full, and unrestricted RN license in the State of Alaska required at time of submission
• One year of clinical nursing experience preferred with prior experience in emergency nursing preferred
• Required certifications upon hire: BLS and PALS
• ACLS must be obtained within 6 months of hire date
• ACLS, PALS, TNCC/ATCN, and NRP certification required within the first 6 months of employment and bi-annually thereafter
• Must live at least 50+ miles away from the facility address
