PCU Registered Nurse Job in Roanoke, VA

You'll work as a Registered Nurse in the Progressive Care Unit at Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital, a hybrid unit with 10 PCU beds and 2 ICU beds serving adult and geriatric patients.

Schedule & Duration

• 3x12-hour day shifts: 6:45 AM to 7:15 PM
• Every other weekend or 6 weekend shifts per 6-week block
• Minimum 1 holiday per 13-week contract
• Facility may call off 1 shift per 2-week period
• 91-day assignment starting July 13, 2026

Clinical Responsibilities

• Typical patient ratio 1:5; may work without CNA support
• Cardiac monitoring, dysrhythmia interpretation, and emergency response
• IV therapy, phlebotomy, blood product administration, and central/peripheral line care
• Administer medications including cardiac drips without titration
• Manage ventilator care for chronic trach and vent-dependent patients (2 vent-capable beds on unit)
• Respiratory support: nasal cannula, oxygen administration, non-invasive airway management
• Participate in Rapid Response and Code team activation
• Maintain isolation precautions and work in telemetry settings across PCU, DOU, IMC, and stepdown units
• Floating may be required within skillset to another PCU or medical/surgical unit

Required Credentials & Experience

• Active Virginia state or compact RN license
• Minimum 1 year of nursing experience
• Vent experience required
• ACLS, BLS, and NIHSS certifications
• Epic charting system experience required

Common Patient Diagnoses

• DKA, COPD, Sepsis, Suicide/Overdose, chronic respiratory failure, and renal failure

Support Services

You'll have access to interdisciplinary support including Physical Therapy, Respiratory Services, Phlebotomy, Radiology, Social Services, Rapid Response Teams, and Pharmacy. Remote telemetry with unit-based monitors and tele sitting for additional staffing coverage.
