ICU RN Job in Council Bluffs, IA

CHI Health Mercy Council Bluffs is seeking an RN for a 91-day travel assignment in the Intensive Care Unit. You will work three 12-hour night shifts weekly (6:30 PM to 7:00 AM) with every third weekend required. Holiday requirements include July 4th. No on-call or standby duties.

Unit Details:

• 16-bed Medical ICU with 1:2 nurse-to-patient ratio, occasionally 1:3
• Charge nurse present on each shift and takes an assignment
• No nurse aides or patient care techs on the unit
• Hospitalist available 24/7 in-house; intensivist in-house days, available via telemedicine at night
• Respiratory therapy shared with ER; RT handles all ventilator adjustments
• Centralized monitor techs (not on unit); Draeger telemetry monitors
• Charting via EPIC; navy blue scrubs required

Your Responsibilities:

• Manage drips, ventilators, and BiPAPs
• Titrate vasopressors and sedation (Levo, Neo, Cardene, Precedex, Propofol, etc.)
• Read and verify telemetry strips independently
• Care for common diagnoses: sepsis, respiratory failure, stroke, myocardial infarction
• Float to PCU and Med-Surg; training provided

Requirements:

• Current Iowa nursing license
• BLS, ACLS, NIHSS (required); PALS and TNCC preferred
• Minimum 2 years ICU experience preferred; previous travel experience preferred
• BSN not required
• Pass orientation exam at 90% or higher (open book)
• Artificial nails prohibited in patient care areas

Orientation: One shift in ICU and one shift in PCU. No self-scheduling; block scheduling cannot be guaranteed.

Compensation: $2,384.64 weekly. Start date: August 3, 2026.
