About this role

Aspirus Wausau Hospital is seeking a Registered Nurse for its Cardiovascular Intensive Care Unit. You will work three 12-hour day shifts per week (7:00 AM to 7:30 PM) with 36 guaranteed hours weekly on a 13-week contract starting July 13, 2026.

Unit Overview

The 12-bed Cardiac ICU manages post-operative cardiac patients, acute myocardial infarction (AMI), cardiogenic shock, induced hypothermia, and standard CICU cases. You will care for critically ill cardiovascular patients with attention to hemodynamic monitoring and advanced cardiac support.

Clinical Responsibilities

  • Manage patient ratios of 2:1 for CRRT and 1:1 for Impella support
  • Provide direct care for post-operative hearts, AMI, and cardiogenic shock patients
  • Perform frequent cardioversions and manage line placement and discontinuation
  • Work with Swan catheters, intraaortic balloon pumps (IABPs), and post-operative cardiac patients
  • Float to other inpatient units as needed, primarily critical care and acute care clusters

Schedule and Flexibility

  • Every 2–3 weekends required (Friday, Saturday, Sunday)
  • Every other holiday rotation required
  • Call permitted but not required; 1-hour response time if accepted
  • 36 hours of low census unbillable time available, taken in hour increments
  • Unit may request 4- or 8-hour shifts during low census periods

Requirements

  • Minimum 2 years of cardiac nursing experience
  • Wisconsin RN License, BLS, and ACLS required
  • CCRN preferred but not required
  • EPIC charting experience preferred
  • Associate Degree or Certificate required; Bachelor's Degree preferred

You will be expected to work independently, manage tasks in a timely manner, and adapt well to change. Any color scrubs are permitted. Weekly pay is $2,428.20.
