Medical Technologist Job in Charleston, SC

MUSC Health Charleston is seeking a Medical Technologist for their Laboratory department. You will work a 5x8 day shift schedule, Monday through Friday from 12:00 PM to 8:30 PM, with a rotating weekend and holiday schedule (currently every third weekend, subject to change). This is a 91-day travel assignment beginning November 2, 2026.

Role Overview

You will be strictly assigned to Microbiology with no floating between service lines. Your responsibilities include performing routine and specialized laboratory tests, quality control, and troubleshooting. You will prepare specimens for testing, perform preventative maintenance on laboratory instruments, and recognize and evaluate normal and abnormal values. You will also communicate technical information to medical and non-medical personnel and assist with training laboratory personnel in routine procedures.

Required Experience and Qualifications

• Bachelor of Science degree in Medical Technology or relevant medical or scientific discipline
• Certification as a Medical Technologist by ASCP BOC or equivalent or relevant specialty lab certification
• Experience with Gram stain reading, plating, and rapid PCR setup
• Minimum 3 years of experience preferred (first-time travelers accepted)

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience in Microbiology and Beaker
• Experience in culture reading, identification, and susceptibility testing
• Experience with BioFire Torch panels and Cepheid assays

Equipment and Procedures

You will work with specialized equipment including BD Kiestra, BD Bactec FX, BD Epicenter, BD Synapsys, Cepheid Infinity 48, Cepheid GeneXpert XVI, Biomerieux Torch, BD Phoenix M50, BD Phoenix AP, Bruker MALDI, BD MGIT 960, and Hologic Accuprobe. You will perform procedures in Bacteriology, AFB, and Mycology.

Schedule Details

There are no on-call responsibilities. The facility may call off one shift per two weeks. This position offers straightforward day shifts with consistent hours and the opportunity to build expertise in a specialized microbiology laboratory.
