Certified Surgical Tech - CVOR Tech

Job Details:

• Weekday hours with weekend call required
• Work in CVOR unit averaging 6 cases per day
• Perform in open heart surgery and vascular cases independently and with confidence
• Work under the supervision and delegatory authority of a surgeon to facilitate safe and effective conduct of invasive and non-invasive surgical procedures
• Ensure operating room environment is safe, equipment functions properly, and operative procedures are conducted under conditions that maximize patient safety
• Ensure availability and preparedness of OR rooms, supplies, and equipment needed to support efficient and effective perioperative processes
• Maintain sterile instruments, sutures, and equipment necessary for surgical procedures with working knowledge of each device
• Assist with positioning and prepping patients according to standards of practice and departmental policies and procedures
• Perform initial instrument, sharps, and sponge counts with the circulator and perform additional counts as necessary
• Assist with draping the patient and establishing the sterile field
• Participate in surgical site and patient verification during time out procedure
• Maintain sterile field to ensure patient and employee safety by upholding highest standards of sterile technique during procedures
• Prepare and pass off specimens as appropriate
• Assist in lifting, turning, positioning, and preparing patients for surgical procedures using proper body mechanics
• Assist in maintaining a clean and safe environment
• Clean and prepare instruments for terminal sterilization
• Assist other team members with terminal cleaning of the room
• Use standard precautions and appropriate personal protective equipment when working around or handling hazardous substances including blood and body fluids
• Must be flexible, punctual, and willing to learn in the surgical environment
• NBSTSA certification required
