PCU Registered Nurse Job in Wausau, WI

Aspirus Wausau Hospital is seeking a Registered Nurse for a 13-week contract assignment in the Progressive Care Unit (PCU). This role offers you the opportunity to work on a 36-bed medical-surgical intermediate care unit with a strong telemetry focus.

Position Details

• Schedule: 3x12-hour night shifts, 36 guaranteed hours per week
• Contract duration: 13 weeks, starting June 15, 2026
• Weekly pay: $2,428.20
• Location: Wausau, Wisconsin
• Every other weekend and every other holiday required
• No on-call responsibilities

Your Responsibilities

You will manage a 4:1 patient ratio in a fast-paced environment requiring independent work and timely task completion. Patient populations include those weaning from ventilators or managing tracheostomies, sepsis, trauma, alcohol detoxification, GI bleeds, colostomy/ileostomy care, chest tubes, traumatic brain injury, orthopedic trauma, spinal cord injury, and stroke. You will handle primary patient care and insulin drips while potentially floating to other inpatient units as needed, typically to higher-acuity settings.

Requirements

• Current Wisconsin RN License
• BLS and ACLS certification (AHA or ARC)
• 2+ years nursing experience with documented stepdown/intermediate/PCU experience
• Ventilator and tracheostomy care experience required
• At least 1 prior travel nursing assignment
• Associate degree or certificate required; bachelor's degree preferred
• ICU experience preferred
• Trauma Level II facility experience preferred
• EPIC charting experience preferred

Additional Information

• Must reside outside a 50-mile radius of the facility
• Any color scrubs acceptable
• Mask required during flu season if you decline flu and COVID vaccination
• Eligible for 36 hours of low-census unbillable hours
