Med Surg Nurse Job in Indianapolis, IN

You will work as a Registered Nurse on the 3 North medical-surgical unit at IU Health University Hospital, where you will provide post-operative care for colorectal surgery patients. This is a 91-day travel assignment beginning May 18, 2026, with a 3x12 day shift schedule.

Position Details:

• Work 3 twelve-hour day shifts per week
• Patient ratios: 4–6 patients on days, 5–7 patients on nights and weekends
• Care for adult and geriatric patients
• Every other weekend schedule per contract, with possible consecutive weekends based on operational needs
• Work 2 out of 3 major holidays

Responsibilities:

• Provide direct patient care including bowel obstruction care, colostomy and ileostomy management, feeding tube care, wound care and wound vac, and surgical drain management
• Perform central line blood draws and IV management
• Administer heparin and insulin and manage patient-controlled analgesia
• Implement isolation precautions for negative-airflow room patients; must be fit-tested for N95 mask or trained on PAPR device
• May be assigned charge nurse responsibilities with training and resources provided
• Precept students and new graduates
• Float to different levels of care within the hospital or affiliate hospitals, including Med-Surg, PCU, and ICU as needed
• Make up call-in shifts during the pay period or at end of contract

Requirements:

• Minimum 2 years of nursing experience
• Level 1 trauma experience preferred
• BCLS certification required
• Willingness to float; refusal may result in contract termination
• First-time travelers accepted

Compensation:

Weekly pay is $1,918.08.
