PCU Registered Nurse Job in Roanoke, VA

Opportunity:

Registered Nurse - PCU

Job Details:

• Work 3x12-hour night shifts from 6:45 PM to 7:15 AM
• Weekend requirement: May be every other weekend or 6 weekend shifts in a 6-week scheduling block
• Must work at least 1 holiday per 13-week contract
• Facility may call off 1 shift per 2-week period
• Self-scheduling with Kronos scheduling system
• Epic charting experience required
• Minimum 1 year of experience required; travel experience preferred
• First-time travelers accepted
• Required certifications: ACLS, BLS, NIHSS
• Provide care for stroke, neurology, and general medicine overflow patients in a PCU/stepdown setting
• Patient population includes adults and geriatrics
• Typical patient ratio is 1:5 with a staffing goal of 1:4
• Unit census of 25 beds/rooms
• Perform cardiac monitoring, dysrhythmia interpretation and management, and emergency response
• Administer IV therapy, phlebotomy, blood product administration, and manage central/peripheral line care
• Administer cardiac drips including Cardizem, Heparin, Insulin, low-dose dopamine/dobutamine, Amiodarone, Nitro, Bumex, Lasix, Lidocaine, and Ketamine (no titration)
• Provide respiratory support including nasal cannula, oxygen administration, and non-invasive airway management including CPAP and BiPAP
• Manage potential procedures including chest tubes, trach, PICC lines, and multi-lumen catheters
• Utilize remote telemetry monitoring with monitors remaining on the unit
• Maintain isolation precautions and PPE across PCU, IMC, and stepdown unit settings
• Interdisciplinary support available including physical therapy, respiratory services, pharmacy, radiology, social services, rapid response teams, and more
• Required to float within skillset to another PCU or medical/surgical level of care unit as needed
