About this role
Lutheran Hospital in Fort Wayne, IN is seeking an Allied Health Professional First Assist Technician for a 13-week travel assignment. You will work a 4x10 day shift schedule from 6:30 AM to 5:00 PM, with 72 guaranteed hours bi-weekly and the option for block scheduling.
Your Role:
- Act as primary surgical assistant during cardiovascular surgeries, supporting the surgeon with tissue handling, exposure, hemostasis, and incision closure
- Maintain the sterile field and anticipate the surgeon's needs throughout operations
- Cannulate patients when going on and coming off bypass; may pass cannulation sutures as directed
- Suture as directed by surgeons, demonstrating strong cardiac surgical skills
- Assist in room turnover to support efficient case flow
- May float to the Main OR as needed
You will work in a high-volume cardiac OR, averaging 85 surgeries per month. Hospital-issued scrubs are provided. The facility uses Cerner for its EMR system.
Requirements:
- Minimum 2 years of First Assist experience in cardiovascular surgery
- Current BLS certification
- First Assist certification
- One of the following: CST (Certified Surgical Technologist) certification, RN license, or Certified Surgical Assistant certification. If you do not hold CST certification, you must provide evidence of employment practicing surgical technology in a healthcare facility before July 1, 2009, or hold CSA certification
- Strong cardiac surgical skills
- Ability to work holidays and call as required
- Must be located more than 50 miles from the facility; local candidates are not accepted
Assignment details: 91-day duration, starting August 17, 2026. Weekly pay is $3,212.
