RN - Med Surg

Job Details:

• Work on 3 North medical-surgical unit specializing in post-operative care of colorectal surgery patients
• Care for adult surgical oncology patients with focus on general surgery, pancreatic and hepatobiliary cancers
• Also receive ENT patients and colorectal overflow patients
• Patient ratios: 1:4-5 during days, 1:5 during nights
• 24-bed unit caring for adults and geriatric patients
• Must be fit-tested for N95 mask or trained on PAPR device for negative-airflow room patients
• Floating required within hospital or to affiliate hospitals - may float between Med-Surg, PCU, and ICU levels
• Work every other weekend per contract, with possible consecutive weekends based on operational needs
• May be required to provide charge nurse coverage with training and resources provided
• Call-ins must be made up during pay period or added to end of contract
• Required certifications: BCLS
• Minimum 2 years of experience required, Level 1 trauma experience preferred
• Special skills required: NG tube insertions, epidurals, PCAs, wound care, dressings, central line management, Foley care/management
• Additional skills needed: blood product administration, central line blood draw, feeding tube care, isolation precautions, peripheral nerve block catheters, surgical drains, wound vac, epidural pain control
• Experience with Cerner charting system preferred
• Must work 2 out of 3 major holidays
• First time travelers accepted, local Indiana residents not accepted
• High acuity medical-surgical environment
