PCU Registered Nurse Job in Wausau, WI

Aspirus Wausau Hospital is seeking a Registered Nurse for its Progressive Care Unit (PCU). This is a 13-week travel assignment with three 12-hour night shifts per week, from 7:00 PM to 7:30 AM, offering 36 guaranteed hours weekly at $2,402.64 per week.

Role Overview

You will work in an 8-bed observation unit with a patient ratio of 1:4, managing high-volume admissions and discharges with average stays up to 48 hours. You may float to other inpatient units as needed, including intermediate care and cardiac telemetry units. You will be required to work every other weekend and every other holiday.

Patient Care

Your patients will present with conditions including anemia, cellulitis, COPD, dehydration, pre- and post-operative urology and GI cases, and require cardiac drips such as Cardizem, Nitro, Insulin, and Heparin. You must be able to read and interpret EKG strips, and will complete an EKG exam during your compliance process.

Scheduling and Benefits

The contract includes 36 hours of low census unbillable time, available in hourly increments as needed. The unit typically schedules low census in 4-hour increments and may ask you to work only 4 or 8 hours of a scheduled shift. This flexibility allows for better work-life balance during slower periods.

Requirements

• Current Wisconsin RN License
• BLS certification (American Heart Association or American Red Cross)
• ACLS certification (AHA or ARC)
• NIHSS certification highly preferred
• Minimum 3 years of nursing experience
• At least 1 prior travel nursing assignment
• EPIC charting experience required
• Associate Degree or Certificate in nursing
• Background in observation units or Medical-Surgical/Telemetry units preferred

Assignment Details

Start date is July 6, 2026. You must reside outside a 50-mile radius of the facility. Scrub colors are flexible—wear any color you prefer.
