Job Details:

• Monday through Friday schedule from 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM with major holidays off
• Must have experience with both small and large specimens ("smalls and bigs")
• No local travelers within 60 miles accepted
• Embed, cut, and stain processed tissue specimens
• Cut and stain frozen tissue sections
• Process and stain human-derived fluids for cytological evaluation
• Assist with bone marrow biopsies and prepare bone marrow specimens for microscopic evaluation
• Obtain surgical specimens and document by logging in and assigning accession numbers
• Handle specimens requiring special processing, handling, or staining for accurate diagnosis
• Perform gross evaluation of surgical specimens on regular basis
• Charge for pathological procedures and file all materials including slides, blocks, and reports
• Distribute results to primary and referral physicians
• Order supplies, reagents, and equipment necessary for histology and cytology completion
• Compile information for outside referrals, quality assurance reviews, tumor registry, and research studies
• Maintain and clean all morgue and histology equipment
• Process slides and stains of quality acceptable by pathologist
• Label and identify all blocks and slides properly
• Process tissue sections of uniform and proper thickness
• Mount sections free of bubbles and maintain safe working environment
• Work independently with little to no direct supervision
• Bachelor's degree in science, chemistry, or histology preferred
• Previous hospital histology experience required
• Histology certification preferred
• Heavy experience in gross examination preferred
