PICU - Pediatric Intensive Care

RN - PICU

Job Details:

• Rotating day and night shifts from 7:00 AM to 7:00 PM or 7:00 PM to 7:00 AM
• 2 full weekends required per month (Friday, Saturday, and Sunday are all considered weekend shifts for both day and night shifts)
• Holiday rotation required - travelers will be worked into the permanent staff holiday rotation schedule
• No on-call requirement
• Self-scheduling available with block scheduling possible as long as unit needs are met
• 2 years of PICU experience is a hard requirement
• ICU patient ratio of 1:1-2; stepdown patient ratio of 1:3
• Required certifications: BLS and PALS
• Must be comfortable titrating drips including sedation protocol (Fentanyl, Versed, Precedex) and vasoactive drugs per physician orders
• Common diagnoses and patient types include congenital heart program, DKA, respiratory, neurosurgery, tracheostomies, ventilators, G-tubes, and may include adult patients
• Must be comfortable taking adult patients when needed
• Floating required within children's hospital including L&D, NICU, and acute pediatrics at normal ratios
• RT-managed equipment includes ventilators, CPAP, and BiPAP
• Telemetry monitored off unit with central monitors at ICU and stepdown desk
• Charge nurse and house supervisor support available
• Nurse aides available on unit to assist with feeding, fingerstick blood sugar checks, and equipment needs
• Pediatrician, resident, and APP in-house 24/7
• Scrub color required: dark gray (pewter)
• Charting system: EPIC
• Orientation includes EPIC training, NSO, competencies and equipment review with clinical preceptor, and 3 shifts in PICU with a mentor
• Cancellation policy: 2 shifts per 13-week contract
• BSN not required
